Hi All,
Looking to make the move from working in industry to big4 and was curious as to what level and pay I might be worth?
I have 10 years experience out of uni, as well as completed CPA and MBA. I have a experience in managing entire finance function of small/medium entities, but most notably solid corporate finance experience/strategy leading refinance exercises, debt raising, hedging/treasury strategy etc…Would be looking for something in deal advisory / M&A / CFO advisory etc….thanks Deloitte EY PwC @

I heard there’s a hiring freeze in effect at D AU Consulting. Not sure how long it’s going for unless anyone else heard otherwise
This is correct. Promotions on hold/significantly reduced across the business too.
https://www.afr.com/companies/professional-services/financial-review-consulting-salary-guide-2022-23-20220808-p5b815
the AFR consulting guide says that SMs at D start at AUD 150k total comp. But this is the minimum and there may be wide bands, plus you're earning GBP 110k already, so you might get AUD 200k total comp.
At the analyst-consultant levels, Big 4 in Aus pay less than boutiques, strangely enough. Not sure how it is for folks like you though.
Financial services consulting in Aus seems a bit under the weather. The belt-tightening going on around the world is going on here too. there are some growth sectors (eg energy) where people are stacking up their utilisation without even trying, but my FS colleagues are working on a lot of proposals and not a lot of billables.
I don’t know too much about how boutiques pay - but I like to think they badge themselves as Tier 2 Strategy houses to make themselves feel better. That in turn means they still make a bit more than most Big4 - for comparison, I think SM at Consulting in D start around late £89k - early £90s but you’re looking at roughly £10k more (at a minimum) at these boutiques
Do you have a job lined up in AU? Or are you on the market?
I haven’t got a job lined up just yet - still waiting for PR visa to come through but will likely try to move internally to Australian practice in the first instance.
