I have gotten three new jobs since late 2022 (had some bad fits). I think it's been progressively more difficult with each hop and pay bump. The market is tighter, but there are still good offerings out there. I believe it will pick up after the new year. This also likely depends on your geographical area, I am speaking from South Florida.
What about the economy
I’ve noticed it’s harder lately. I think it’s a mix of firms tightening up because of the economy and trying to get away with lower salaries. It feels like they’re banking on people being desperate enough to settle.
Outside of the status of the economy I have had wildly different job seeking experiences. Have gotten lucky and found a great job right away, and also gone months applying and applying to end up with a mediocre employer. I think random timing and luck can inject a lot of variability into the situation
When I was looking for a job 2 months ago, I got 3-4 interviews a week for various firms I applied for. It got to the point of crazy. I do agree with the others, as you move on to other employers and get that pay bump, it gets harder to land a higher paying job because most of the employers out there are not paying as much. Not really sure what that is about. Also hybrid or remote it gets tricky. Most employers will low ball you to accommodate a hybrid or remote position. I was lucky to find a hybrid position that seems flexible and pays well. If you’re looking to jump ship I suggest working with a recruiter. It helps a lot!
