No, those things are not crazy.
Hey Thompson Reuters is hiring for attorney editors if you're interested I work from home and do not have client contact
What are the odds of exceeding 100k over time? Any idea how much room/opportunity for growth over time to exceed that estimated $100k salary, or is that generally it for mere mortals climbing the Thompson Reuters editor ladder?
Also, are there part time time roles related to editing? If so, what do salaries and time commitments generally look like?
Thanks! ❤️
You're not crazy. I had an awful family law experience, but for different reasons. Feel free to change. BUT in my part of the world no firm ever went fully WFH. Some have hybrid flexibility.
I think family law in particular lends itself to a particular type of burnout that other types of law don’t necessarily have. I went to law school thinking I wanted to do juvenile criminal defense but after doing a one semester internship in law school i was like wow this is so depressing I couldn’t do this for a long time. Then I went into just general litigation. People talk about burnout bc of deadlines etc but you don’t have the added stress of the family law disputes - Im a empathetic/highly sensitive person so I think dealing with those issues it would be hard to disconnect and not *feel* some way about it on top of the challenges of practicing law. So, all that to say, Maybe you just need to consider another area of law!
I’m not sure you’re ever going to find a “non-stressful” law job but it’s all about how you manage deadlines and clients etc. It sounds like you’re new to the practice of law and learning how to balance everything can be stressful in its own right. But I do have a permanent wfh legal job with a big firm… more and more are doing this now I think as an incentive to draw talent and retain it.
Thank you! Do you mind me asking if you’re still doing general litigation?
Family law is a busy practice which is stressful enough. But also you're deep in the client's emotional issues which adds a second layer of stress. I tried family law briefly and switched to the commercial litigation department in my firm. So much better. Just the "regular" level of stress being a lawyer.
