Honestly, this felt like a really harsh truth but also just felt like a very harsh message, period. I see what he's saying and there's a point to it but is it really that simple these days? I know for sure I can't walk around with a printed CV, and the more novel approach he's talking about is what the hard part is. How do you deal with the 'right decision makers' not responding to you??

The cringe part is being arrogant enough to post a rant telling people they don’t try hard enough in today’s job market. He can take his dot matrix 12 page CV and jog on.

What worked in 1999 doesn’t work in 2025. Even if you go to a job fair, you’ll be told “apply online.” If a company is in a big office building you may not even be able to physically get into the offices. So “canvassing” is all digital now, and good luck getting people who don’t know you to respond to your cold call.

We received more than 10 applications within 2 hours of posting a director level position. I believe 90% met the qualifications. So it’s not just junk applications coming in. The market is in the employers hands right. I can say this with complete confidence: showing up without an appointment to drop off a resume isn’t going to get anyone far here. Depending on when it’s dropped off, it might actually be detrimental to being hired.

I believe that targeted applications and tailoring a resume to meet the preferred quals will make a huge difference. It also doesn’t hurt to call your connections. We’ve made very few hires that a current employee couldn’t vouch for.

He doesn't say what the job was (janitor?), not how much he made or how long he stayed.

And a 21 year old living with parents isn't the same as a mid-career person with a family relying on them trying to find a job in a competitive and highly automated job landscape in 2025.

So, recently got put on a PIP after six months at my new job., two days after I told my boss and HR I recently learned I have a cognitive disability caused by an illness. The PIP was mostly because I forgot some deadlines, but also they said I need to be more professional in emails (even though others use zero punctuation and a lot of emojis. To clients.) and simultaneously ask more questions and ask fewer questions. Should I just assume this is unattainable and look for a new job again?

I need advice. I met an amazing guy on a dating app. We talked for 4 months and most of the convo was sexual. I fell so hard for him and it was because when we met up in person he was so kind, caring, and respectful towards me. He never initiated conversation with me first, but if I messaged him, he would respond back immediately. Then after 4 months he ghosted me on the app we were talking on. I texted him and he told me he had a gf. I am completely heartbroken. What kind of behavior was this?

Is it just me or do 90% of the jobs being laid off by big tech sound made up? Many job descriptions with multiple bullet points that all kinda revolve around the same idea. One of my buddies works for a big IT company and literally just sits on meetings all day. No one really contributing to anything other than agreeing to whatever the speaker is saying. Are these kind of jobs finally being exposed? Six figure employees getting paid to sit and bounce ideas off each other?

Does anyone else feel that the more content someone puts in their LinkedIn headline, the more full of it they are? I say this as someone with a bunch of stuff lol but at least it’s all at one company and accurate.

I’m talking mostly about two kinds of people. 1. The influencer who is actually unemployed, but lists 25 BS things they do
2. The brand collector, who writes “ex-“ for every former company they worked at and school they went to. Maybe less full of it but still insufferable.
