Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I highly encourage people to not to panic. For one, you are contributing to the herd anxiety. Just stop. Second, from a macro level, most industries are holding steady (save for those tied to interest rates like construction). Please study this. Companies got rid of 20 million workers in the pandemic and it was a nightmare to get them back. They are reluctant now to fire them. There’s more to it, which is why I suggest just doing some reading/ listening on the topic. Marketplace, the podcast/ newscast, is doing a great job covering this story.

Not concerned honestly but maybe I should be 😅
Dude, this is a made up issue. The economy is so strong that the fed literally had to stop the flow of money just to prevent the economy from rash landing on the moon
Unemployment is 3.5%. The economy just added 315,000 jobs. Wages are at an all time high. Like, really, what world do you live in where layoffs are about to happen? What company in its right mind would lay people off when talent acquisition is so difficult right now?
They literally said they’re going to “make it worse” and that unemployment would have to increase. Like these are facts, they’re going to do it.
Applying external, getting referrals to go to other consulting firms. Trying to get off the bench and take anything rn that is up for grabs. Worried too.
The reality is that unemployment levels (along with a number of other variables) need to come up to get inflation down. The economy is fun in for a hard landing!

Employees got more expensive last couple years. Good employees are still hard to find and will be retained if possible. Fat may be trimmed. So yeah if you’re the fat, maybe I would be worried. But if you’re lean meat, you’re land on your feet. (That rhymes too!)
Might need to refresh my EMT cert lol

This storm will pass. Find a safe harbor to keep busy and billable. Tap the reserve funds only if needed.
God speed!

Selling and delivering work is what we do. If you aren’t currently staffed on a project delivering work then focus on selling the work. BD with WBS codes. This is how the storm passes quicker. All hands on deck. This is not a drill.
