How common is it for chief of staff roles or VPTs at a Portco to exit into the sponsoring fund? The recruiter I’m speaking with says it’s a possibility but didn’t give any specifics.

Varies by fund in my experience. I’ve interviewed with a few where VPT is like 15% conversion rate to PE Ops and others where it’s like the normal path

Possible if you have existing relationship with sponsor fund and consistent face time

smart

More common in the opposite direction. But agree with D1

Very uncommon but not impossible

Any tips for moving up in a medium/large-sized legal department, aside from switching companies? I work in a collegial environment with plenty of opportunities to create more value, but the management level is fairly crowded and it seems the clearest path to get one of those roles is to be hired into it. What has been your experience? Thanks!

ZS Associates
I have a couple of questions for ZS fishes-

1. Is it possible to turn down a promotion at ZS? I'm currently happy with my responsibilities as a Decision Analytics Consultant and don't want any added responsibilities in the near future (next 5 years)

2. Is it possible to shape up a career path in the BC stream which doesn't involve business development? I don't want to get into working on SOWs and RFPs.

I’ve been in TA for 10 years and have been wanting to be an HRBP for 2 years now. My prior company had no interest in helping me develop and started with a new company 4 months ago. I was transparent from the start that I wanted to leave TA and was told I could do that within my first year. I’m receiving signs that I’ll, once again, be pigeonholed in TA. I’ve done talent management, DEI, engagement, but my lack of direct BP experience and TA titles keep me pigeonholed. What can I do?

Are alternative investments a good area to get started in? I’m making a career change from insurance and like asset management, possibly at Northern Trust. I had a hectic last three months working up to 16 hours a day due to my project. During this time I took advantage of convenient food which isn’t always the best. Now that things have died down I am having trouble switching from the less convenient food, snaking more than I should and not being as active as I was during the three months previously. I haven’t found what I need to motivate myself and I’m hoping that others could share what motivates them to get back into it after a hectic time
