When I stopped developing as an attorney, there was nothing new to learn from the people I worked for and they were never going to give me better opportunities.
Also, when I was drinking most of my dinners and became generally unpleasant to be around because I had nothing interesting to say and didn’t want to participate in conversations.
My first gig was also PI, and once you learn the game (managing high volume work, adjuster communications, increasing settlement value), if they aren’t going to let you argue substantive motions/take depositions/try cases, it’s time to move on.
I’ve thought about this often. With my therapist, I set clear and objective guideposts. E.g., if I had to cancel weekend plans with my significant other 3 times in a month for 2 months in a row, I would quit no questions asked. I’m “lucky” I that I haven’t hit the targets I set yet, and so am still around. Planning to lateral or go in house very soon though.

"Boutique" firms can be worse than actual biglaw. Have you applied anywhere else?
I’m in the same position as you except I’m based in the US. I plan on quitting in any of the following given scenarios: (i) secure a comparable offer in terms of compensation but better WLB; (ii) pay off my remaining student loans; or (iii) when my quality of life drops to the point where I can genuinely say the money is not worth it. My last firm was 9-5 and full of supportive partners, so I know that there’s an upside to practicing law. We got this, hang tight!
OP, get out ASAP if your head just isn’t in it and your performance is negatively impacted by your desire to leave. Better to leave on good terms without something lined up than to tarnish your name through your negligence.
I know conventional wisdom is to have something lined up or an “excuse” for a gap in employment. But with how hot the market is does this really matter for anything except BIG law? I haven’t even been practicing for 6 months and have recruiters knocking down my inbox (likely due to my current firm).
Get another job lined up, hang your own shingle and take clients, hell go on FMLA. But don’t just quit with nothing lined up.
It's different for everyone, but I loathed getting out of bed each morning and dreaded what was waiting for me. I developed anxiety form even looking at my inbox on my phone and finally deleted outlook all together.
Don't let it get to that point. If you're not happy, search. You may not find what you want, but the grass isn't always greener either. Sometimes it is therapeutic just to look.
