How do you all deal with weeks where you’re experiencing burnout, masking is completely draining, but you are drowning in work?
I’m at the end of my rope right now. I spent the morning crying because I feel I’m not going to be able to hold a full time job with the way I’ve been experiencing burnout in this job. I already left a firm I really enjoyed working at because of the hours and always having to be on. I don’t want to leave this job too but I don’t know what help and supports to ask for.

I apologize for not responding earlier. I am just now seeing this. I had some of the same issues. Government positions sometimes are better as the hours are not typically as high, but bureaucracy is a social beast.

I started in government as a deputy prosecutor and then switched to the private sector. After being in that space for about seven years I opened my own solo firm. It’s just me. No other attorneys or support staff.

So, that helped a lot. I’m much better with client facing communication than I am with the nuances of internal firm structure. So, that is working for me. It’s not easy, but I am able to make it whatever I want as long as it is profitable.

The best part has been saying no to cases and clients I don’t feel are a good fit for me.

Any working mothers in here who loves the company they’re working for? I am thinking about switching firms and need some honest thoughts on companies that doesn’t only say, but actually practice flexibility for work life balance and offers good $$$.

I am a high performer at my current firm but they started questioning working arrangements of folks based on the new members who are huge in-office folks, fast turnover within the team, etc. This wasn’t an issue when I first joined.

So far the only reason I’ve been told no is that “if you do then everyone will want to and then no one will be in the office” … how can I convince them that I work better out of the office and get this freedom & mental break for myself?

Unreliable coworker help - There’s a coordinator on my team who assists me and the other strategists but literally every time I ask her to help with something she says yes & then waits until the last minute to tell me she wasn’t able to do it/makes up an emergency excuse. Trying to be understanding but this is getting ridiculous- she/parents/dog/boyfriend are sick (8x), forgot about another urgent project (10x), WiFi is down or power is out RIGHT when I ask for help (5x).

How would you handle not getting a lunch break when you are a salaried employee treating patients for 40 hours a week? I don’t get documentation time either, but all notes are to be completed the same day. Some of us have reached out to HR and we’re told to discuss it with the regional director, but the regional director says we’d have to come in early or leave late to block out a lunch break. My commute is an hour each way, so I’d prefer not to make my day any longer. Advice?

Coming as a Senior in Audit, with recent FDD exposure (2 deals, obviously not much). I was looking for something more than just number crunching, wanting a mix of quant / quali / strategic work. M&A Advisory or a Corp Strategy role is where I'm looking to end up long term.

Thanks in advance!

I still struggle with networking. In my position, I’m involved in a number of task forces which often have social events so the team can meet and get to know each other in person.
