How do you deal with an ineffective, passive manager?
My team gained a new SOC Manager in February and to this day he’s become notorious for passing tasks down to our lead and analyst and doesn’t understand the systems we use nor does he make an effort to learn. There’s a task that I took on prior to him going(which is a manager level task) and when this manager joined the team he made an attempt for me to permanently take on the task and I immediately pushed back. My coworkers and I racked our

Would document everything. Try to do communications via email. Even if discussed in a meeting or on a call, send an email summarizing his asks to you. Hoping it's a learning curve thing, but worst case scenario he gets outted and tries to turn it on you saying you were doing his tasks without his knowledge.

He’s been here 4 months…learning curve is out the window…he doesn’t know how to use out ticketing system and doesn’t know the full range of tools

Sounds way out of his depth. Have you raised these concerns with HR or with his boss?

Imo raise it - you're likely to out last him.

If you're capable of it and keen, why not take his job? Sounds like you've got the skills for it.

If none of those are things you want to do then yeah... leave.

Well here's the counter argument. With all his credentials... he's not doing a good job. Maybe you don't need all his credentials. Maybe half is enough?

Don't compare to him - compare against what you think is necessary to do damn well at the role.

Schedule a skip-level to express your concerns, and simultaneously update your rez and start looking for a new job.

My boss in my creative agency threatened to fire me because I, a male, came into work with my nails painted. HR is having a very complicated day today as I found out I could take legal action if he does fire me since we don't have an established dress code that has any guidelines against male nail polish wearing.

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). Someone told me today that they just assume I’m not interested because I always seem to “run” but I’m not sure how to bring up problems/feelings otherwise. How do you approach these hard questions?

I started working for a new law firm, much larger than the firm I was working for previously. The main attorney that I work under had noticed some mistakes I was making (I am a NY paralegal who took this position with the understanding that they’d be teaching me NJ and NYC real estate). Anyways, the attorney decided to tell the HR manager about the mistakes I had been making. Rather than HR discussing with me, the manager told my dramatic coworker to tell me..how should I handle this? Very hurt!

Would folks be open to participating in a “PM Office Hours” style discussion?

Flexible on format etc; here’s what I’m thinking:
- We choose a particular problem for a week (/month?) which a lot (all?) PMs face regularly. E.g. “stakeholder mapping”
- we have a “Fishbowl Live event” where we (practicing PMs) can discuss what we have seen work / not work/ brainstorm solutions for someone with a specific problem.

The idea is to provide multiple peer perspectives, and hopefully something useful

Q: for FAANG recruiters, do candidates get a reject stamp after failing even at the later stages?
I advanced to the last stage at
Facebook (Meta) around a year ago but failed on my last interview, a combination of not being familiar with the process and not having chemistry with the interviewer.
A friend who is a hiring manager recently recommended me and this time without even a HR call I received a straight up thanks but no thanks email.
Does this mean I’ve been permanently black listed?
