How do you guys suss out if a manager role is actually a leadership position during the first phone screen? I’m looking at roles that are titled Finance Manager but the job description is basically just AP/AR and bank reconciliations. It’s so hard to filter through the noise when companies use fancy titles to mask what is essentially entry-level bookkeeping. I don't want to take a job that looks like a step up on LinkedIn but actually stalls my skill development for two years.

A director in another unit wants to meet me to “continue a conversation we started last year”. He is referring to the time I had asked him if there were openings on his team. That was over a year ago. I am not too happy where I am right now ( I stayed where I was). I also don’t know if he really has an opportunity or if this is just some corporate circle jerk where my current director is trying to “smoke me out”. I don’t speak poorly of my team/work. How would you approach this conversation?

Is moving to management track better that being an IC as specialist role? I have currently 2 offers with slight difference in package whereby ic role is fetching more price since I am using my 1st offer to counter. But 1st offer being a management track, I am more inclined to it. Any suggestions.

Should you discuss salary range with an internal company recruiter prior to setting up an interview? With external recruiters it’s pretty easy to talk about the expected range. I am trying to avoid wasting all of our time if i get to the last interview and they are expecting a salary that is too low for me.
