Yes, not only student loan debt but my credit card debt as well. My credit card interest rates are insane. I can't afford to pay more than the minimum balance but once the interest rates are added my payments don't make much of a difference if any at all.
This is how it is on my loans. I try not to use my credit cards more than I can pay off!
Whoever wrote that article is an angel, that's a great argument to get all of our loans forgiven. They are causing us extreme distress.
Of course it affects your well-being! I was laid off in December, with only about 4 more months left for my PSLF qualifications. ( For the full 120 months.) I will be full retirement age in Dec. 2024. Now, in order to get the PSLF I took a pay cut of 1/2 of my previous wages to work the minimum of 30 hours in nonprofit. I didn’t have time to screw around with these stupid HR people taking forever to make decisions. I had tried all of 2023 to find a different nonprofit job to no avail. With an MBA, and years of experience, yes, all of this is rough on your mental health and dealing with Mohela and Federal Student Aid.gov are all quite stressful! Yes, I am a non-traditional graduate who went back to school in my 40’s. My advice to younger people is to stay in school and finish the first time around, for a Bachelor’s and for advanced degrees, you will get more bang for your buck!!!
No kidding. I'm sorry you are dealing with this! Hope you can get those loans forgiven and then get back into a higher paying career debt-free
