Hii Guys, Could anyone give me some clarity on the below point. I have cleared 2nd round of technical interview at Deloitte, but my candidature is still showing as interview in progress at Deloitte careers page. I had a discussion with HR on this and she told me that next process is pending from management side. It's been almost 10 days since from 2 nd round of interview. How much more time does it gonna take, any idea? Or is it normal. Please help me with this 🙏🙏 .Deloitte

I feel the same way instinctively but when it’s my turn to be hiring manager it’s always helpful to see people apply their talent in ways more directly relevant to the role they’re interviewing for. Especially true bc you truly never know who worked on what in projects they present from their portfolio - they could just be excellent interviewees 🤷🏻♀️ I personally only think this is helpful for hands on roles. I imagine moving into roles above CD levels, it starts to really get insulting.
It’s the Julia Roberts’ in “Pretty Woman” No Kissing rule! 😆💄
Ive never been asked to do this, but in my fantasy, I very nicely, very innocently ask “oh interesting, Ive never been asked to do that. Would it be a day rate be for something like that, or one amount for the whole project? How do you guys do it typically?”
Like those are the only two options anyone can imagine in the world. Make them figure out how to tell you they expect work for free, and realize how bad it sounds. But then you have a reason to turn them down, like (again, very innocently) “oh, gosh, I dont think Id be able to do that then”
love this thank you
Yeah its gross, and especially from a place like Omelet that doesnt deserve the free work.
My official advice is to just say “no thanks” and not get into it. But I know its rough out there, and maybe you need a job. No matter what though—for the good of us all—you have to insist you get paid.
So you should say “what I can do is a week of freelance where you put me on as many projects as you want, so we both get a feel for what it would be like if I was there full time.”
Also deutsch has been working with walmart too no?
I read Glassdoor for omelet and it was littered with red flags.

It’s honestly timeless. I love that video. 😂❤️

I’m sorry if you are unemployed, but I would tell them to kiss my ass.

Fair enough 😂 I’m not far from it lol
Huge red flag. That’s what our book is for. That’s why we spend hours crafting. So that we have something concrete to represent our talent. I don’t understand this practice at all.

I agree ☝️ I’m over like...but...the book. Do you not see the book? Lol

Did they give you an actual brief for a real client? (By the way, thank you so much for naming the agency.)

They left it open. They just wanted to see “what I could do with it.”
I make our prospects do some pretty rigerous activities, but we try to make it interesting, short, and not stressful at all. For me, especially nowadays, these tests are extremely important in the hiring process. You can get design degree anywhere but you can also teach yourself way more than any uni online through courses or YouTube videos. I can't tell you how many prospects we've had that looked fantastic on paper but just blow it in a practical. Every one of my hires has been a home run and I can attribute that to our practicals. And no, we don't use their test results for our business, who tf would want to run something someone spent a single unplanned hour on?
But for 8 years, I tend to agree. I'm not sure I'd test an individual that's been in the game for that long unless we needed to be sure of some skills that didn't necessarily display themselves in their work. For me personally, I wouldn't give a test a try unless it's at a place I really want to be at, only because a job hunt is already a long drawn out process. But I don't share the sour sentiment some have. Some think it's unethical or evil or some bullshit. like 30-2hr of your life for something you'll probbaly be spending 35 thousand hours on. Check your ego at the door and prove yourself, if you're that good it shouldn't be that hard.
Send Omelet a test.

Good one 😂
They’re a big flag of incompetent hiring managers. If they don’t know how to find what they’re looking for or recognize it when they have, this is what they do. It’s insecurity in making a decision. And they’ll be just as insecure in making other key decisions.

This is great to know! Thank you!
Unless they're paid, I won't do them. It's funny how places will react when I ask if it's paid and act insulted when I explain my position. It's even funnier that most of those places are still looking for a Sr. Copywriter months later.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Ya the popular opinion was against it, which I also share. Everyone’s opinions have really helpful in validating a pretty irritating practice that seems to still be popping up here and there.
I think it’s great. I love how we’re expected to give away work for prospective employers without the guarantee of employment or pay. It makes a great first impression. ☺️
Never been a fan of test projects. Why?
- Is it reflective of the entire internal process?
- Will the team you might be working with be involved in the test process?
- Are you working in a vacuum during this test project.
- What are the expected outcomes?
- What are the deciding project factors for hiring?
In my opinion, there are too many variables outside of real world work scenarios that makes a test project an ineffective use of time and resources.
I personally don’t mind if the juice is worth the squeeze. It’s when I’m trying to figure out if Id even like the opportunity, is when the test feels superfluous. Some of my favorite (and harder to get gigs) started with a short (usually paid) test
Copy tests tend to be exercise-based, whereas art direction tests usually make you create finished-looking ads.

Well put 😂💯
Sure, but charge them your typical day rate.
It’s not like you go to hair salon and ask the stylist to see what they can do for you before potentially sitting down for a proper haircut.
Enthusiast
No that’s perfect! I’m going to do that. Thanks for the tip. 💯
No. Your time is as important as theirs. Unless you’re desperate and need the money...still no.
I’ve done them for jobs where I was new junior designer but I wouldn’t do one now. In that case, I understand. I was paid for one of them but not the other. I got the job for the unpaid one. The designer who I replaced was the one who came up with the design test. With 8 years experience, I wouldn’t do a test. That would be insulting.
Its fine if its paid I guess. ⏰ is 💰

Agreed. Pay me.
