I relate to this so much. I had to move my work station in my apartment for less distractions. I’m also finding I’m most productive in the mornings, so I’m waking up a bit earlier and trying to block off my calendar to just have work time and no meetings until a bit later so my focus is on point. Additionally, trying not to beat myself up for taking little breaks or having a day where I’m not as productive. We are humans, not robots. 🤷🏼♀️
I left the city for 3 weeks, 1 week was on a beach, and I came back in such a better mental space. I got through 2020 with a decent amount of strength until November hit with tighter restrictions. I got in a mentally dark space so I had to do something to get healthy. I knew I needed time with people so I saw some family and a couple close friends, and I needed a change of environment so I went somewhere warm. Even though I didn’t do much while away, just the change and time with people did so much for me.
While I was away I decided I needed to start the year with a new schedule and new approach to my weeks. I decided what I was aiming for in 2021 (professional and personal) and structured my days to put time towards those things every week. It’s helped a lot having a structure that moves me towards some things that are meaningful to me and my growth. I’ve been stepping out to grab coffee in the AM to feel some life outside and get fresh air. Making time to meditate and pray in the mornings too. I have calendar flexibility so I’m doing an hour workout early afternoon while listening to a podcast or audiobook. Working on my cooking skills so trying new recipes.
Working towards a better year!
I block off time to give myself breaks when I need to otherwise it can be too much. I try to take a break to walk around the neighborhood or cook and actually sit down at the dinner table to enjoy lunch and chat, and I can come back to work and be focused again. Beyond all the things you mentioned sometimes it feels like they have abolished the lunch break. Who can work like that?!
I’m looking forward to the “roaring 20s” to start. Economists are also predicting the 4th industrial revolution. But for now, I just play loud music to energize my surroundings and day dream of dancing in a club. I haven’t been clubbing in years, but best believe I’m hitting em up after all this shit!!!
No social media during the day.

If you can change things, change them. Otherwise you have to focus on what is in your control.
For 2021, I moved my desk from one side of my living room to another. I now look out a window. Seems small but it seriously helps. Also I’m making an effort to take walks. Still working on not feeling guilty for stepping away -wish I could shake that. There’s a lot going on right now so you’re def not alone
