Omg I hope you’re not talking about me. But if you are, I’d want to be told “hey can I have a little room here to try this myself and check in with you on it in our weekly one on ones? That’s how I learn best, so if you’re ok with that, let’s try it!”
I am sure I’m not talking about you! Haha, but it’s almost in a different controlling way. Like they are almost dictate how the team has to manage things.
Worst part is I’m not the only one on the team that feels this way.
Age old "they're a manager and not a leader" situation. No bueno.
Sadly, yes…
Tell them to shove their attitude where the sun won't shine 🙂.
Dealing with this right now. Just his style. Looking for a new job now since he replaced a great manager.
You, too @Havas! Hopefully something good comes along!
How about your manager?
If they’re good at managing in any way, they’ll hear you out and be willing to adjust working styles or come up with a plan that gives you opportunities for autonomy and runway.
I understand - I’m suggesting you talk to them. Address the struggles you’re having head-on. Tell them what you’d like to achieve and be open to working with them on ways to get there.
Just explain that you work best when concentrating and then make specific "work only" time blocks in which you can't be interrupted.
