Negotiating with EY for M/SM Tech Consulting. I have 15 years experience, skills are in demand and my interviews went extremely well. 1. What are the salary ranges for M and SM in NYC. 2. I am told it is only going to be a M now, for my own benefit-no EY network means failure at selling. Whats the highest salary I can negotiate at M. Any other tips will be handy. I have "sold" (support on sales & new roles through relationships) plus I have solid delivery experience. I really want SM 😀😀😀 EY

I’d never take another in-office role and would rather have less money than give more of my time and energy and flexibility to work.
Yes. I live in the suburbs and have little kids. The commuting lifestyle didn’t work for me.
Depends on the hours
1750-1900 is what associates typically bill
I lateraled biglaw firms and am fully remote. Also a parent of young children and won’t go back to an office gig unless absolutely necessary
In this chapter of early parenthood, it’s absolutely essential. Having no time lost to a commute and getting ready means I can have a shot at taking care of myself and spending time with my kid during the day.
I’d need to go on reduced hours if I had to go in regularly.

I would never take less than market, except for government jobs.
Always. I’d go down to $150k in a heartbeat for fully remote, assuming the hours aren’t horrible.
Absolutely yes.
I'm making below market as a Sr Counsel but I spend half the year in the Hamptons/Hudson Valley and the other (cold) half in Florida -- and also spent a month working from the Caribbean last year. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to an office.
And yes, to an earlier poster's point, it can definitely be a bit isolating, but I'm on Zoom all day so I don't feel *completely* out of it.
My payscale is obviously different than yours, but I did exactly this and in my case I now make more than I would have staying in big law AND I'm fully remote.
The small firms have more flexibility and autonomy in what they are able and willing to do with respect to paying people. So though I initially did take a pay cut to be fully remote, my first raise put me above where I'd have been had I stayed two more years AND I got a better bonus than I would have at my prior firm.
it is being taken away from me slowly now and would happily take a pay cut
to get it back.
Ooof mid-level to first year is a BIG pay cut. My family depends on my current salary. Golden handcuffs and all. But if I could swing it - 10000000% I wouldn’t think twice about it!!!!!! DO IT!
Remote is increasingly important for me, but I’m not taking a pay cut for it.
