Truly great people
Good opportunities early
Little mentorship
No culture
Corporate pressures
Very client-supported-by-account driven
Not weird
Not adapting fast enough
A lot of those truly great people don't seem very happy
So? Get a year or two in, score a couple book pieces, make that resume pop, and GTFO.
Depends on the account. Verizon and Microsoft are tough. Nespresso and NY lottery are great
It all depends. On who you work for and how much you understand agency culture/how good you are at playing the game to make people think you’re good.
Being good helps. But, as with any big agency, it can be tough to get noticed and put on good assignments. But if you do, you can make the kind of work that gets you to the next level.
There are smart people to learn from- not just about work but also award shows and the rest of the industry. Some CDs are nurturing, some are not. You will work a ton.
There aren’t groups that you need to get into because they consistently have great briefs. Every group has its ups and downs. Verizon is tough because they work a lot. But are making better stuff lately.
It all depends on you and what you want. If you want a place that holds your hand and helps you chart your career growth, that’s not Mccann. If you want a chance to work in a big, professional shop, it is.
If you are prepared to work ass off, I’m talking most 70+ hours a week, people will notice and that’s when you start to get some good briefs.
As said above, some accounts are better than others, but that’s really only true once you are mid level. Good thing about being a junior is you can get of a lot of briefs. But your ideas might be taken and given to a more senior team. Pros and cons of working with a lot of talented people in a giant agency. Always someone that can do your job better or are more trusted.
But also as said above, truly great people that work too much and don’t get enough in return. But everyone’s amazing (at least creatively)!!
