Be sure to consult with your doctor and read your employee handbook before bringing anything to HR.
Arm yourself with information. You are most likely protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) -- take care and know that you are not alone. All the best to you. Damn, life can be so challenging at times.
I don't know for sure, but you may be more protected by disclosing since you'll possibly now fall into some level of legal protection against discrimination at the workplace. Contact an employment attorney and ask for a free consult.
Actually, I think that if they fire you after you disclose your disability, you're in for a big payout.
If you report it to hr and file the right paperwork, you'll be protected. it would become illegal to fire you based on mental health
Not an assumption. ada will protect you if you disclose it and help protect your job.
I'm so sorry to hear this. *hugs* I am in the same boat and have disclosed to my boss and bosses boss. They accepted with open arms. I would not worry about your employment status. Worry about yourself and your health! Also, it is grounds for a lawsuit if you were fired. Wish I could help in some way.
OP go speak with an attorney first and ask for a free consult. Then determine what to disclose to your company. Some people on here are making some assumptions that may or may not be true. Speak with an expert.
Safer to disclose. Be yourself.
Life is tough sometimes. Hope your employers empathize and don't fire you. Also hope you're seeking treatment. 🤗
Are you taking your medication? If you're being compliant on your docs recommendations and let HR know you have a disability then they won't/can't fire you. However, they may reduce your responsibility but if they do that then make sure to document that too because that's not allowed either unless it's at your request.
You can speak to a labor lawyer for about 2k retainer (they'll refund used portion, just put it on your credit card). Get the facts. Then proceed. IMO, you are protected class, nothing to worry about. Take care of yourself.
Sorry that you're having to deal with this. I hope you get through it okay.
