if you haven’t tried it yet — write it down. A verbal agreement is never as strong as a written agreement, in any setting. Write down your requirements — there is no repeating necessary when they can look back at a written document and see what needs to be done. …and if you still have to repeat yourself a lot or point back to the written reference then maybe this gig just isn’t for them.
Sounds like she’s too acclimated and this is what you’ll continue to get in the future
I installed cameras today so hopefully that incentives her to work
What P1 is saying, you don't want someone who does the job well only if you are looking.
We got really lucky but there was no acclimation period. She loves our baby so much and works hard to teach him new things (including successfully working through really difficult PT with him that he hated). He lights up around her. She’s not me and will never do things exactly the way I would with him, but I totally trust her and feel so much better than I thought I would leaving him with someone because I know she’s taking such great care of him.
And I hate to agree with P1 about the cameras but I do. It’s not that cameras are bad, but the fact that you feel you need them shows the trust is not there.
So today she showed up and was super engaged with the baby when she hasn’t been for the past week or so. We’ve had incidents of the baby peeing on the couch because her diaper is so wet (which I don’t even know how that happens), or not getting enough engagement; so the cameras really are to see how she spends her time, and not because I think she’s actually harming the baby. I did tell her that I put cameras up to watch the baby since she sleeps on the couch so often and she thought it was a smart idea, so no weird feelings there :) - plus, daycares have cameras for a reason
Have you considered daycare? I
