How long should you expect to hear back from a salary negotiation? I feel like it’s a yes or no answer, not sure why it’s taking over a week.

If it’s taking over a week, they are likely weighing another candidate. It usually takes one business day for HR to review, approve, and adjust the offer letter.

smart

Some firms have cost controls in place that would require approvals at the highest levels if its beyond a certain threshold. I work for a very large privately held company and I know that's how it works here.

Pretty quickly, usually within a few days or week max. Getting approval shouldn't take that long unless they're disorganized or someone is OOO.

There can be legitimate, and honestly boring, reasons why a salary approval can take a while. It's not uncommon that several people may have to approve and sign off. If you're applying for a job, that may be a bad sign, but it's not necessarily the case.

I have experience a week for most negotiations I've done. especially when there are hoops the recruiter needs to jump though with getting exec approval, it can take some time

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

Hey fishes, recently got an offer of 245k plus a bonus, but no specificity and at least 3% cost of living annual raise. My current job I make 150k plus a 20% bonus and an annual cost of living raise anywhere from 2-3.5%. Have been in my current position about a year. Things have been a bit bumpy (not a me issue) I have a new supervisor and was recently given 7 direct reports (I had zero before). The new position while comes with a significant raise is a move to California. Any thoughts?

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!

What's the best form of compensation to ask for and why?

My employers' CEO just announced that they just received $7 million from investors. He wants to use that money to offer incentives to employees that hussle and drive more revenue for the company. We're not sure what those incentives look like yet, but here are some post-announcement rumors from my co-workers:

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.
