Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

I believe the phrase “weird flex, but ok” was coined specifically for this exact post.
I think of them as people, not FTEs.
I do cost reduction and operating model work so over my 15 years of doing this work, I'm realistically at 15-20k people.
One day you will be a statistic in some juniors wet dream too...

Why are you proud of this? Do you have no sympathy?
I had the opposite take - I read it as ashamed and dehumanizing not proud.
OP, which is it?
I’m not proud of it, quite the opposite actually. Just curious.
10K+ and then I got laid off because the numbers weren’t big enough.
Hundreds for sure - but quite often we also recommend to increase HC, so it's all relative.
OP, these are real people with kids college tuition and mortgages. Families break down when the primary income earner loses his/her job. How many jobs have been created/saved as a result of your work?
Including myself?
One. Just one. One very incompetent CIO. Not laid off but demoted
I don’t consider that a direct result of your work unless you explicitly recommended to demote the guy. Your work might have exposed so issues that demonstrated his incompetence but his demotion is an indirect result
For me it is more like the opposite of what most people here think, I remember the number because it are people
Not to be proud of
Just recommended net 30+ addition. It’s pluses and minuses that keep things sane

I couldn’t do it
Interesting that you even track this.
I don’t think he tracks this but more reflects on it. Y’all assume the worst sometimes
Not a metric to be proud of OP.
They aren’t - you gotta read in the sub threads
Playing devils advocate here. How many times execs hire us to give them backup for a decision they have already made to lay-off people and bring in managed services. I cannot think of a project where the execs had an open mind about this. Even when I have found that it makes no sense to lay off people and outsource the exes don’t want to hear and it the partners tell the teams in no uncertain terms to produce a report that backs what the clients want. Now I am an SC so there may be execs who genuinely want an answer but I haven’t come across one
