How much equities do biotechs typically give out for D or AD? (Post-IPO biotech ar clinical stage) Is it also usually vested in 3-4 years? Wanted to get prepared before negotiating my upcoming offer.

It really varies company to company and whether it is RSUs or options or both. I’ve seen so many different ones.

Regardless, these equity packages are very frequently equal/similar by level within a company especially at the advanced company stages and public companies that you are asking about. So there is usually little flexibility there, in my experience at least. You more often have wiggle room on base (especially if you’re not at the top of the band if listed in the JD) or in signing bonus.

Vesting is usually 4 years. Every so often you’ll find a company that offers a 3 year vesting. And rarely it’ll be a 5 year vesting. Also, I’ve seen some companies sneakily do a 4 year vesting but it’s 0% in Year 1 and then 33% each for Y2-4. Or some other % variation that makes vesting skewed to the backend of the 4 years. Whatever it is, it’s usually fixed company-wide and not negotiable in my experience. Of course C-suite/VP+ hires may have unique exceptions made but we’re not talking about that.

Super helpful! Thanks 🙏

Mine has been approximately 15-20% of my salary with a 3 year vesting period.

AD1, was that your sign-on/initial equity award or your annual/refresh award?

Typically the initially one is significantly more. My current employer awards a 2x of the annual one (assuming no promotion) for the initial/sign-on equity.

Also, can you share more about your company’s characteristics (e.g., size, stage, public/private, HQ region, etc.)?

Currently a Solutions Consultant at Pegasystems.

I am interviewing at and considering making a jump to
Oracle as a Specialist Solutions Consultant.

The reason for my move is currently at Pega SCs are treated more as AEs or Account Managers. The role at Oracle would be more of a true SC position. I also feel that Oracle will look BETTER on a resume and someone as young as me would have BETTER programs in place to train me and give me the foundation needed to be a successful SC.

Thoughts?

Just got offered a job at a small biotech in London (UK). ~£45k plus bonus but only 1YR FTC and no equity.

Pretty sure it's a discovery role too.

I just finished my PhD at a very good uni with 3 years technician experience before that. BSc and MSc also at very good unis with good grades.

I think this offer is well below par, but curious to hear what you guys think/if you have any comparisons?

Thanks in advance :)
