I had interviewed for an internship position at EY for technology consultant program for summer 2022 and got a call where they extended an offer. I wanted to know if I can defer the internship offer to fall 2022 or a later start date after summer.
I apologize as I cannot reply to a comment or DM on this platform to anyone, but thanks for your answers in advance.

Sounds like they don't want to pay payroll taxes. You didn't say what it is, but I cannot imagine DOL/IRS will agree with them for a full time role in something that is acct/finance adjacent. Are they expecting you to work traditional 9-5 hours? Are they expecting to set up your own PC on their system or do they expect you to walk in with IT systems to safeguard their data? Other thing to consider is you'll be on the hook for their portion of payroll taxes, but also insurance which can be brutal
It’s in their consulting/strategic finance team for the portcos. So not like a one of position, there’s a team of 8-9. But agreed, the taxes and having to get my own insurance sounds like a pain
I wouldnt say its a red flag on its own but you should consider the lost benefits as lost compensation and the potential admin burden. You can set up an llc as an s-corp and pay yourself a salary to avoid running up the self employment taxes, plus you can deduct business expenses. Health insurance is probably the biggest incremental expense, maybe you can request a separate health insurance stipend?
I wouldn’t want to work with an outfit that violates labor law. It’s not a huge deal on its own but it indicates how they operate
As an update - they ended up saying they’ll make it W-2. Was going to have a final round with the firm founder tomorrow and they cancelled today, saying they need to “re-evaluate things” and it’s on hold.
Probably dodged a bullet lol
