I work on vaccines, mostly non branded stuff to educate people on the diseases they can prevent, and I absolutely believe in them. There are many more wellness brands, too. Pharma is tough but it's clear how ignorant about it many who've never worked on it are...
Wait. You guys don’t save lives because you advertise pills that potentially cure cancer. People who created these pills potentially do. Doctors potentially do. Doctors don’t study advertising to know what to do.
Once you are over 35 you will magically embrace pharma.
You couldn't pay me to leave pharma. Enjoy making lame insurance and cereal ads, while I learn heaps about science and technology, use my brain to circumvent strict regulations, travel all over the world for global launches and make more money than you.
Good hours. Good pay. Good team. Routine ez work. What am I missing here?
Im with CA1. You couldn't pay me enough to leave pharma. For all the reasons he stated and more. Would shoot myself if I had to sell a cracker or a pair of pants. Simply not interesting. And just for context, I've been in pharma for over 15 years and I won ten lions but this year with 5 campaigns in 5 juries. I get it, everybody has to have someone to look down on. You all hate your jobs. But if it makes you feel a tiny bit better to be able to say "hey at least I'm not pharma" at the end of the day, then I guess I'm happy to play that role for you. But I'm also just happy.
NOTHING is worth the money.
My answer: Triple the paycheck and I'd consider it.
I just couldn't do it because of ethics. Big pharma is literally the devil. That said, so is selling soda to kids and a bunch of other things we do in "regular" agencies, so I guess we're all doomed anyways.
Hahaha if you think people are using fitbits because of a bunch of cialis ads, you’ve reached exactly the station in life you deserve.
I would never waste my life creating such embarrassing campaigns. They are creatively really really really really really really really bad. But before that, I don’t want to BS people telling them over and over to put chemical in their body listing all the side effects they can experience. 99.99% of these ads are pollution for the audience and pollution for the body. The more you earn to do this crap the bigger the shame.
GCD 1 - what are your brands?
Huh? SAD 1 I don't think you'd ever be smart enough for pharma. Never mind...
Why work in pharma instead of finance? The reason people work in advertising is for the creativity. If that's stripped away, you might as well work at a bank and make bank.
It's just....dumb. Clients set in their ways that don't really make sense...they do it a certain way because they always have. Lots of legal rules to navigate, which makes it hard to find any sort of creative solution that's not cookie cutter or conventional. A lot of time spent debating things that won't matter in the end anyway. Don't fool yourself, hours can be long. Lots of account ppl that just say yes because of the $$$ to the agency. And of course, there's big pharma...though that is an ethical issue that may or may not matter depending on your personal beliefs.
@creative associate I don’t believe you. In fact I know from very early junior experience what you’re saying isn’t true
SAD 1 perhaps in the past. But health is cooler now. That's why people embrace crossfit and Fitbit etc.
How much more on average do creatives make working on pharma?
Starting working in pharma in my current shop, after 10+ years of mainly CPG. I thought I'd hate it, but it feels okay. I like figuring out how to get a product in front of someone that it can actually help. I'm talking more like vaccines and not penis pills.
So to answer the OP's question, I only take it when I'm desperate for a gig, and at 150% of my normal day rate.
