Any Big 4/CPAs here buy a home in VHCOL (SF/Silicon Valley/Manhattan)? I’m wondering how do we compete with tech money in CA and high finance money in Manhattan if we don’t have wealthy parents?

I was going to buy a condo this year and I just found one in a pretty good neighborhood. I do feel it is being sold at a premium but I can afford the property and locked down a 5.5% interest rate after a buy down costing 4K. Should I hold off on buying a place. The monthly payment is higher than I would have wanted but I feel like buying is better than renting because you are investing in yourself.I had saved up 40k and it’s in my account for buying. If I don’t buy what should I do?

Spouse and myself are in Mid 30s both work for big 4 have a kid living in HCOL, save 100k a year in Cash after all expenses, medical and tax deductions. Is it decent or we are under par compared to the market?

I saw the thread about savings and many young lawyers (20s and 30s) don’t know how to open up a brokerage account or invest in their 401k. I know they don’t teach personal finance in school (though they should!), but my advice is that you should go to your local library and read a book about the subject. You have the skills necessary but you must invest in yourself. No one will look out for you.

6 months pregnant and just laid off. And 40% of my severance was just taken in taxes .. Need help with a home loan query - lets say i want to buy a $300k house, and looking for a bank loan.
