How realistic is it to get into IB/PE with M&A tax experience and then attending a T15 MBA program? Does anyone know of someone who has done this before?

Also, does the M&A tax experience count for anything? Or will they just care for the MBA mostly

Just switched firms, in hopes of greener pastures....and I’m miserable. Not totally sure where to head next, debating some non-traditional means of employment/next steps. I def can spin the story but am I risking my whole career if I say, took less ‘prestigious’ role for the next year? I’m a private immigration attorney whose interested into transitioning into a high level federal government attorney position in the future (not in this administration). Ideally, I’d love to work in the solicitor general’s office.

A friend is considering deferring an offer (stem PhD) for 1 year straight out of undergrad to work in NY, either in a research institution or a biotech. She does not have any real work experience outside of her lab (3 years) and an adjacent internship. Another factor is she is just generally feeling burnt out on school after the last few years.

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money.
