Hypothetically speaking, if you were guaranteed partnership in a few years, would you stay and make partner or would you still leave bc big law is miserable?

Make partner for the exit options and several years of seven figure $$$.

like

Assuming an actual guarantee, I would probably try, but reevaluate every year if it’s worth it. One caveat - if this is NSP K&E style (i.e. a glorified senior associate), then no.

likefunny

Hypothetically there’s no guaranteed partnership unless they’ll put that in writing fyi

I was about to make partner and left to go in-house. SO much happier, despite the huge paycut.

like

Nope. I worked my butt off those last few years to make partner and wasn’t considering going in-house anytime soon since I was so close to partnership (and told it would happen). The company I’m at is pretty special for unique reasons and I wouldn’t have left for any other role / company. Happy to explain via DM.

like

I mean it depends. How long do I have to stay once I make it. But either way I still think my answer is most likely no.

uplifting

Agree with A2. Non share partnership sounds horrible

I know so many people that were promised partnership that basically never made it. So- if in writing… maybe?

I am a 3rd year senior associate in alternative investment tax and up for manager promotion this year. I really dislike the long hours of this job and seeking to make a move.
