Honestly? No. The best ICs in consulting are the least successful. Partners that can’t open a PDF will do better than them simply because they know “exec speak” and how to pitch. Many partners selling in analytics don’t even have a clue what they’re talking about. Selling and doing are completely different skill sets, and selling pays better
Selling does! That's why I wish I was better on the oratory front. Anyway, thanks for your honest response.
If you aren’t able to develop those skills: then no. But don’t assume you can’t. Push yourself into uncomfortable territory
Wow okay, thanks for being honest. I will try and do that.
You can make it 'far', but you likely will never make partner/partner equivalents. Best option if you are money motivated and want to be a high level IC is to pivot to industry. Specifically a company that has IC/Manager parallel career paths.
But also, these are absolutely skills you can work on. Not everyone is born a charismatic god, most of us have to work for it. Don't think you're stuck never being able to sell or communicate well, it's a learned skill.
Your response is so detailed and helpful. Will hold on to everything you said.
If you can start getting comfortable learning those skills yes
That's true. I guess I should push harder in believing in myself
