Load up on Chase cards before opening more since Chase has the 5/24 rule (Google it). You can get the Chase Sapphire Preferred for the 50k bonus then close it or downgrade it to another version of Freedom for free besides the version you already have. SPG is definitely worth it if you stay at SPG hotels. AMEX recent increase in redemption to 5x for platinum card points is also an awesome opportunity if you want to stack up with a gold card and platinum card and blue cash card. Close the gold after the bonus and keep the blue cash for groceries and gas (3x), platinum for flights (5x), CSR for dinning and hotels (3x), freedom unlimited for misc spending (1.5x), and freedom quarterly categories for random (5x).
I actually cancelled the SPG card once I got the CSR, it didn't make sense to me to have two cards for hotel/travel benefits instead of consolidating to get all the points on one
@M1 Don't hoard all your points into one basket... Every award program's T&C clearly states customers don't have any rights and all points value and existence can change at any moment without a notice. It's happened before and keeps happening.
I keep both and use SPG card for SPG/Marriott stays and CSR for everything else. Hyatt has a very small footprint abroad so it's important to me to have SPG points as well.
Yes plan out your Chase cards. If you're SPG get the Marriott card, which is subject to 5/24, get something else, and then when at 5/24 get the Ritz card because it's not subject to it, and it's super fly as it's a complete plank of metal like the JPM Reserve
Thank you guys! Seems like I should go for it. Much appreciated :)
