Our product sells itself, but how do you set yourself apart to get the initial meeting booked?

Hello, first post here. Outside sales, merchant services/card processing. I’m primarily a welder but I work 4 10-hour shifts typically then I try sales the last three days. I’ve done it long enough to where I’m confident and comfortable going to new businesses, establishing some rapport with business owners. But it seems like a lot of businesses see this as a waste of time, even adding services and cutting costs. I guess either I’m looking for advice or considering not doing this anymore.

Per SHRM, I was just curious if any HR Professionals completely removed the following fields: social security number, recommend salary, graduation dates, military discharge info, race, maiden name like (Ms. Mrs. Ms), & criminal history questions. Is an SDR in tech sales for a saas company typically a very challenging role? Do you feel a lot of pressure? Can the sales skill be learned?

So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?
