Mental Health and Support

I am a second year teacher and I have a pretty tough group this year. I am feeling major burn out. I love my career and it is truly rewarding but I am genuinely struggling. Any suggestions are welcome

Second year is tough. You miss the first year students, you don't quite love the second year students yet. It might get better by the end of the year. Make sure your expectations for yourself are reasonable. Make sure you're taking time for you. Don't be afraid to use sick days for mental health days. It gets better though, at least it did for me. Im in my 3rd year. Beginning of the year is tough for me because I don't yet feel the same love for my new kids as I did for the old.

It’s also just that time of year when the energy of the beginning of the year is wearing off

Hey there, first of all, I am so sorry that you are feeling burnt out. The first few years are tough and I even had a random tough year 4 after having an amazing year 7. Something I have found helpful is limiting my time spent on school outside of school. It feels difficult at first and I even felt guilty, but it made me a much better and much more productive teacher. Hope things get better soon!

What would you do? I’m a first year at HSW, have company sponsorship offer on table (~$150K, taxable) at tier 2 firm (ATK, OW). I’d return as a manager at 175K, or can aim for MBB consultant offer...

Does anyone have creative ways that they are capitalizing on outside sales perks such as: mileage, hotel points, credit card points, etc.? So far my solutions are high mpg vehicle to maximize profit on the 57 cent per mile standard and the American Express Hilton Honors credit card to gain points after the company reimbursement.

I've totally lost my motivation to do side projects. I used to leave the office, come home and do personal work all night, but now WFH has taken over my home office sanctuary.

Heard there’s a bro culture and long hours. They’re hiring but concerned Momentum won’t be a fit for a working mom creative. Who has insight into the vibe there?

D&I initiatives are clearly important, but the sad state of where we are at is that often people that “make it", never reach back. How do we get “us” to engage with and help “us”.
