I am a second year teacher and I have a pretty tough group this year. I am feeling major burn out. I love my career and it is truly rewarding but I am genuinely struggling. Any suggestions are welcome

Second year is tough. You miss the first year students, you don't quite love the second year students yet. It might get better by the end of the year. Make sure your expectations for yourself are reasonable. Make sure you're taking time for you. Don't be afraid to use sick days for mental health days. It gets better though, at least it did for me. Im in my 3rd year. Beginning of the year is tough for me because I don't yet feel the same love for my new kids as I did for the old.

It’s also just that time of year when the energy of the beginning of the year is wearing off

Hey there, first of all, I am so sorry that you are feeling burnt out. The first few years are tough and I even had a random tough year 4 after having an amazing year 7. Something I have found helpful is limiting my time spent on school outside of school. It feels difficult at first and I even felt guilty, but it made me a much better and much more productive teacher. Hope things get better soon!

Stick it out. You’re almost done w this year. It’s gotta get better tho next year will prob be tough as well.

Hi. I’m in need of advice and encouragement. I’m currently working as a public defender(2nd year) but I would love to pursue a solo private practice. What is a good way to gain experience in other areas of law as a solo practitioner? What areas of law are best for maintaining a work-life balance?
