I dropped 7k about a year ago on new furniture... my advice is to shop from somewhere that offers financing (for example, furniture row line of credit allowed 0% interest if played in full within 5 years).
I do also have the chase sapphire pref card and Chase does have a benefit called "MyPlan" which allows for a payment plan per transaction, similar to financing. They dont charge interest per se but they do charge a monthly fee based on the amount of the purchase, so basically interest even though they say it isn't.
Of course you can always pay it outright through the card(cash) but in general financing is the better option unless credit rating doesn't allow.
I wouldn't open the chase sapphire pref card solely for this purchase - unless you are needing/wanting an everyday spend card anyways. You might get a few hundred dollars worth in reward points/miles but it is still a $95/year fee card.
For sure!
1) depends on the card. My cap1 venture card waived the 1st year. My chase saph pref charged annual fee the 1st of the month after opening.
2) absolutely
3) no debt besides mortgage is great and something I hope to achieve eventually. I'm currently a staff 2 and don't really have the cash sitting around to begin with, so for me it's all about leveraging debt the right way to maintain/build my credit history.
Theres not a correct way to do anything; all depends on personal goals and risk allowance.
