I am one of the folks whose job was impacted by the Target layoffs. It’s wild how quick it happens, one moment you’re planning holiday shopping and the next you find yourself stressed about surviving. They said it’s about “reclaiming efficiency,” but it just feels cold. How do you process something like this after years of loyalty? To everyone still there, I hope you’re checking in on your teammates. It’s people, not numbers, who make a company.

So sorry to hear you were affected. At the end of the day we are just numbers for sure. It’s not personal. It’s definitely cold. Only way that I got over my lay off trauma was to find a new job. Also it helps to know lots of others are also affected.

Thank you. Sad but that is the reality when you’re just a worker bee.

I am so sorry to hear that. Of all places I didn't expect Target to be doing layoffs right around the holidays. It just goes to show you that in the end loyalty doesn't matter to these big corporations.

like

I was so blindsided. I know there were issues but to do this right before the holidays is the most heartbreaking thing to me. Thank you!

Gosh, I'm really sorry to hear that. It's crazy how quickly things can change, and it's very scary. I hope you're able to bounce back quickly and find a good job for you.

like

Thank you I hope so too. I existed off the resume and looking.

Unfortunately in big companies like this you usually are just a number!

I have learned over 20+ years of retail.. Never kill yourself for a job.. you will be replaced in 5 mins. Work hard.. but don't give them complete loyalty.. they don't return it

I’m sorry to hear that. Just as the other expressed, at the end of the day, what matters to those at the top of the company is the bottom line. In times of economic decline and decreasing profits, they will look to reduce labor cost first, since it’s the biggest cost they face. Unfortunately they don’t consider the impact it has on each person, their financial standing and emotional/mental health. Best of luck on your journey forward!

Has anyone left healthcare and is now really happy? I’m an MSN, RN with 12 years hospital experience. I’m burned out and tired of making crap pay. I have an opportunity outside of healthcare that would pay more and challenge me in new ways that I haven’t experienced before. It’s a total shift that would really heal my work-life balance, job satisfaction and budget. My only fear is that I would not be using the license and degree that I worked so hard for. I would appreciate any input!!!!
