Imposter syndrome, my friend. Welcome to the club

Same. Self worth at all time low. Told the therapist I was a consultant and she was like, “oh I see a lot of you.”

You were among a bunch of dummies and now you are among a bunch of smarties
This … this is one of the contributing factors. I had excellent depth, and knew my domain really well. I keep going up against my consulting colleagues who have the breadth and the ability to convert that into marketable skills but very little depth.
Therapist.
I get it, and I believe it will become easier. It has to. I keep meeting senior leaders who seem so happy and comfortable. I have decided to just do the very best and most that I can, full-on effort, and if they fire me, they fire me. Because that is the worst that can happen. And that isn’t so bad. ;)
Thank you for posting this. I have 9.5 years of experience behind me yet my confidence has never been lower. I definitely feel like I’ve gotten promoted to the highest level of my own incompetence and this is it. There is nowhere else to go from here. Motivation at an all time low. Thankfully work is not yet suffering but I feel like it’s bound to happen sooner rather than later.
Give it a couple of years
It’s a process… can help you chart it out on a PPT. Will cost you $1m.
I think it is a lot easier to be complacent in industry. I get the impression that you need to be very deliberate to seek out challenge whereas in consulting it’s fed to you by default. There is always more to do in consulting too so you have to be deliberate in seeking balance.
Been in your shoes. Confident person by nature. Role did not match (which I only realized retrospectively) which was contributing to decreased confidence. Switched roles and got my confidence back. Now I’m flying. Point being, it might be in your head and your environment exacerbating. Don’t doubt yourself. You got this
Yup! Sounds right.
Very similar situation as yours, but I have always been in consulting... After a lot of introspection, it feels like the big 4 work culture is to blame..at my previous job, I used to make less than half of what I make today but the work environment was very collaborative, we truly solve problems as a team and there was no fear of failure... always had people around to talk to and discuss things moreover, we all had something common to discuss. Now, people hardly have time to connect and talk, no collaboration and we all are just pretending to solve big problems but the fact is we are well paid monkeys, dancing on the tune of our masters to make them happy!
First of all, congrats if you make double than what you earned prior. That’s a great achievement and you should be proud of yourself. But at the same time only you know yourself better - nothing is worth your peace of mind and sense of well-being. Do everything with caution but as much as possible try to avoid compromising on your happiness- life is too short for that.
