But in my new team deployed in a support project. Feeling depressed and frustrated. asked manager 2 times to change my responsibility. But he's accepting in call but not doing what he is promised. On a more serious note, I think that there's an inverse correlation between sheer raw horsepower and seniority at every consulting firm. But considering the positive correlation between seniority and effectiveness, I'd have to imagine that raw horsepower isn't the driving factor behind effectiveness in consulting.
TL;DR - in business as in life, intelligence has rapidly diminishing margins to scale past the cutoff point we see in most consulting firms.
Just because your analysis and slides have to have zero defect doesn't mean that intelligent people don't get lost occasionally or leave a phone charger at a hotel. I think one of the gaps in the consulting mindset is that we become too focused on fault-finding and perfect execution that we can't see value in other forms.
We perpetuate the myth to make ourselves feel good about ourselves. Business schools like it to, because it drives their profits. I've met people here who are amongst the most incompetent of any industry or company I've been at - and there's been a few.

Consulting attracts people with a lot of book learning. That's not the same thing as intelligence.
