I've decided to pursue an MBA to move into management consulting and leave advertising. My research has shown that it is absutely worth it in job opportunity, security, salary (2x) and ROI. IMO not worth it if staying in the same field but in some cases it could make sense.
Never get an advanced degree unless it’s paid for™️
It was worth it for me, gave me a much broader perspective of how clients think, much more confidence (especially for presenting), strength in data/analytics, etc. More than doubled my salary day 1 after graduating...that definitely would not have happened in 2 years working.
I believe it’s worth it as well. Even at an increased salary of 10K/year it’ll pay for itself over your career if that’s all you get, and you’ll get more. Confidence, understanding diverse perspectives of clients/stakeholders, and all the new friends and network... all things you also can’t put a price on.
for which field?
For strategy
As a suit? Possibly.
As a strategist? Probably.
As a creative or producer? Absolutely not.
And I say possibly/probably to the former two not really for practical purposes but there are some more corporate agencies that definitely get impressed by credentials.
I honestly don’t think it matters that much, unless you are also considering client side in the future. Two years of work experience vs am MBA would put you at pretty even for an agency job.
Yeah no, if you need it to rise, you’re a shite strategist
