First off, I'm sorry that happened. I've been there and it's incredibly stressful! The first thing to do is not make it about you. Apologize for your mistake, then do everything you can to make it right with the patient & their people. That's all you can do!
I agree with the above, apologize, make it right, and move on. It's tough but we have all been there. Sorry, it happened.
I would be completely honest with the pet owner. Owners treat their pets like family members and they have all the right to know. Just make sure to do something about it with the best that you can.
Be transparent. Contact them and let them know that you made a mistake and explain the new diagnosis
