I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google
I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

I was an M1 at Deloitte . 7OE post Masters. Came in at L4
Was 6 YOE manager and came in at 4. Have seen Level 4-6 pending experience alignment with role plus whether the person was brought in by someone senior on the inside who knew them
Try for 5. I know someone with 7 YOE plus MBA who came in at a 6
You can target L5 if your experience aligns well with the role. I have seen folks come in at L7 with 6-7 YoE but their experience was highly aligned with the role.
L7 with 6 years of experience is crazy!
Borderline but I’d shoot for 5
