I have 8 lions. 10+ clios. Lots of Luezers’, being on juries, good salary. But honestly? Tired of advertising and this business model we all know very well. Choose an option to reply: (A) stop complaining big crying baby (B) retire and go to Hawaii to surf (C) who cares?

I have a similar story. What helps me the most is simply to always keep it all in perspective. I remember to appreciate that my job, compared to most, is sometimes fun, pays well, and scratches a creative itch....but I never forget it means nothing compared to my family and outside life and I always set boundaries and never work too hard....and if they have a problem with it they can go ahead and fire me.

Honestly, this is why I freelance. I spent my 20's hungry to be "ad famous" and winning some Cannes and One Show stuff. It kept me hungry and I was very ambitious and driven. I was also tired of the sprint and was slowly getting frustrated with the industry. Cut to what, 6 years later. I switched coasts and hopped into the freelance scene for piece of mind. I still make things and I honestly get paid much more to do it. More free time to do what I want and to relax with my family and take vacations. At the end of the day, no one (other than this small fishbowl group) cares what list or award you have or what account you're on. They care about what time you want to meet for dinner and if you want to meet up in Hawaii later this summer. So...B?

Wise reply. Especially that last bit.

I wish we pushed for cool work because it’s cool, not to win awards. Always hated the awards culture.

At Anomaly I made cool work without them worrying about awards. For a few years there it was just lovely

Philosophical question (not trying to be political, just a genuine question I’ve been grappling with): do you think being pro-choice and pro-vax mandate are logically inconsistent? Both are sincere views of mine, but upon further reflection I haven’t been able to think of a way one position could be completely defended without undermining the other. Goes the other way for pro life/against vax mandates as well. The fact is, they just feel different to me, but I’m not sure why. Thoughts?

See a lot of comp posts from consultants - have any of you considered enterprise technology sales? Certainly a different job that requires different knowledge/skills but I see parallels/ think a consultant could do well in sales if they’re okay with a lot of rejection. The pay seems similar (my OTE is about 400k; 8 YoE, individual contributor) but I imagine the hours are better and it can be fun if you like solving customer problems, to challenge customers, and building relationships

Does anybody have a view on the growth path / trajectory for a Strategy and Ops Lead?
