I have a meeting with my boss tomorrow and I want to ask for a $35k - $50k raise. All of the research I’ve done online points to this being an appropriate salary based on my experience, credentials and responsibilities. So why do I feel like I don’t deserve it? I’m afraid he’s going to think I’m crazy for even asking. Am I asking for too much? I know for a fact that I could get paid this somewhere else but my team means a lot to me and I don’t want to risk creating a bad relationship.

Because of how you were raised probably. There are people out there who are achieving less and earning more. You might not believe it, but it’s true. Confidence matters, learn to work hard and always believe you are worth more, because the truth is you are.

like

That is a hefty raise, not that it isn't deserved. I would just make sure you have all the reasons they should give it to you in hand ready to explain to them. You can justify it, just have everything ready for them.

I don’t know if you deserve it or not … but… I’d be inclined to apply elsewhere and counter with that rather than just straight up ask. Bc if they say no then you have an out and you for sure know you’re not delusional in asking for that amount bc you’re being offered it in real time by a competitor.

You'll have the best chance at getting that kind of increase with an offer from a competitor.

You could request a raise and provide market data showing average salary and overall compensation rates for your role... most places will simply push to keep people underpaid and overworked, so it's better to have an offer in hand and be ready to leave if compensation is important to you.

Employers understand that a high percentage of workers get lazy or content with their pay and stick around for years without a decent raise...once you find an even better manager and HR team they will take care of your compensation properly. Best wishes.

Just have all the reasons there rehearsed and on top of your head but expect them to go bananas with that kinda money. You may be finding a new job anyway, doubt they will come up with that much

I would not go into a meeting asking for that type of increase without being able to detail exactly what my job description is, exactly what I do to fulfill that description, and how I exceed performance wise in my current position. Also with data from the current market that indicates average salary for you position held. That is one hefty increase to march into a meeting and ask for. I don’t know, but if you’re working for an organization that is paying you substantially less than what the industry standards call for, then it almost tells me that this is an employer that is more designed for entry-level. Once you have reached the point of where you know you are that much underpaid, you move on to the next firm that actually will pay you what you’re worth. It doesn’t hurt to try, but I would make sure you have at least something else lined up or another offer Just in case this changes how they perceive you in the workplace. Good luck!

That's a incredibly hefty raise

Should I leave my company? Been here 1.5 years and was told I was getting a management promotion 5-6 months ago.Still no solid traction and they are opening up a req for it 😑no one on the current sales team has ever been promoted (2 years)except our boss who has been promoted 3 times. We hit quote every month/q/year by a lot. I have several offers at double my OTE. Already asked what the timeline is for a new manager and I was told soon and I'm "up for consideration." What would you do here?

Have an offer from a dream company but I'll need to go in at a lower level. Knowing that I can bring a lot of value to the company (read- I know my worth), I negotiated with the hiring manager to have a level/comp review 6 months after employment. If I hit all my goals (ie, prove myself) within that time frame, I'll get a promotion and salary adjustment.
QUESTIONS:
Should this be in writing in the offer letter?
How detailed should it be? I assume I won't know what goals to set till I start...

AWS vs Cloudflare BDR roles

AWS lowballed but I negotiated to match Cloudflare. Cloudflare offers more equity but AWS has a higher base.

I love Cloudflare. The people are great but it’s an engineering culture and the sales team isn’t as well shaped up and I can’t go for a promotion until at least 18 months of tenure. I am an investor in the company and think of them super highly. I’ve already got half a years SDR experience and AWS promotes quicker.

AWS has prestige but is it worth it?
