I have a question for the parents: when your kids' school supply list requests you purchase extra supplies if you can afford it, so kids who can't afford their supplies will have something, how much extra do you buy? Also, should I label my kids' supplies so that some other kids don't end up with their supplies? The instructions say not to label the supplies, but if I'm buying my kid the supplies, I want them to have them. (When did back-to-school become so complicated?)

I do label my kids' supplies, but when I do this, I'll buy extra supplies to donate to the class. I think this even things out

likeuplifting

I recall that all the supplies get into one pool and then are split among the kids. I am not sure who gets what and how they decide that but my two kids never had what I purchased if that was send to be turned in. If I bought something during the school year, that is what my kids kept. It is only during the late middle school years and in high school is when things I bought were actually used by my kids. This is public schools not private.

helpful

I have no objection to this practice, but why go through the charade of asking parents to send their kids with supplies for them when they are really just contributing to a pool? It seems like a more efficient and effective approach would be for the teachers or administration to establish a list of necessary supplies for the classroom, take stock of what they already have, determine what they need, determine how much it would cost to make up the difference by buying said supplies in bulk, and then put in a suggested contribution per student (with a list of what will be provided) with a request that those who can contribute more do so. Then if kids want to use a non-standard thing they can bring it in or whatever, but the default would be everybody using things out of the common pool. Maybe I am missing something...

Why would you label them if it explicitly says not to? SMH

Only label supplies that the students keep at their desk unless they tell you not to then don’t even do those. I’ve never met a teacher that didn’t have an Amazon wishlist for parents of things they want for the classroom so I usually leverage that when determining what extra to buy.

Any superb restaurant recommendations in vail? My wife and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary and we just had our first child. Since most dinners these days entail standing over our kitchen island, want to go all out on the food. We already have Matsuhisa and Mt. Standard lined up, curious to hear about any others!

If you have a child during your first year of employment at your firm, are you eligible for the firm’s full maternity leave benefit? Or only if you have a child after your first year anniversary? TIA.

Stupid Question- We have been thinking for IVF and trying to understand with this process, is there any difference in the health and life of the child as compared to a child born without IVF. I did ask this with our doctor and he said casually its all same. This is not to question any doctor but just to really understand what is going to be different with the kid. This is not very old technology and not much studies as well.

Hi all!
My mother in law got scammed by a con artist from the UK online and lost $7K (damn you Facebook!)

Her status in the US is currently complicated and she doesn’t have a green card(tho she’s working on it), my wife(her daughter) is American.

I want to report this to the FBI’s elder fraud department but I don’t want to complicate her situation even more.

Does anyone know if criminal stuff like this and immigration related things are separated?
