I hate going to the Apple Store nowadays.
When will the Hike letters be out ?
Hi Londoners ,
Moving in from outside UK.
Looking out for some areas in west / NW London where one can live with an infant on max 1400£ rental while requiring one partner to travel to Central occasionally for work and the other person 3 days a week to LHR.
Some Qns:
1) Will 1 Bedroom be too cramped for the infant to grow up? Should I raise budget?
2) I prefer being in family /childcare friendly areas. Had Harrow, Acton in mind . Are they good for my budget or any other suggestions?
TIA Deloitte @

Talk. It’s free. But only move if getting a McK brand (the other two don’t matter as much) on your resume has been your lifelong dream and you feel your life wouldn’t be complete without it.
Otherwise, risks are too high at your level with little to no upside.
Can confirm my experience agrees with BCG1. Have never had a client tell me they only invited BCG because their problems are too big for anyone else. Maybe McK gets these secretive and exclusive calls more often (maybe Bain too for specific topics) but it’s definitely not very common. I would advise my clients against it. I would tell them to go out to the market and talk to a few firms at least.
Good luck!
Just take it - nothing to lose. Just FYI they will most likely take you on at Consultant / Associate level with 6-12 months until Manager. I’m going through the same process at the moment.
I’m fine with going down a level for a few months but asked if they would consider paying Manager rate and they said it’s possible.
Take the call just so you don’t regret it down the line. The only true decision you’ll have to make is if you get an offer. You can always say no
If you’re planning on staying to partner I don’t see any upside for you
Why do you think laterals don’t do well?
(continued) I understand hours at MBB to be average at around 70, which is more than I'd like to do on a regular basis. Travel would be more extensive as well, which is a negative for me.
Real risks are a stronger up or out culture and having to rebuild my network. Exit ops are better, but at this point I'm looking towards partner.
I'm thinking about cancelling the call. Based on my concerns, or others I've missed, should I take it?
Isn't comp at partner likely to be higher?
I would add couple more McK benefits. I don't think partners work 70 hours anymore. They have much more control of their time and don't have to implement their suggestions. They have associates for that.
And the quality of people you will have working for you and their willingness to put in hours will be higher. That should me make your life as a manger and partner easier. You will have to do less heavy lifting.
I have seen a wide range of T2 definitions. Can you give an example of T2 companies that are similar to yours?
How far are you from getting promoted? If it’s around the corner, then stay. In some T2, you can make partner in 4 years from the first day of being manager.
Got it. It’s a tough call but it’s also a nice problem to have. Good luck
