First of all I’m not gonna feed you that bullshit line of “don’t worry about it, your over thinking”. If you have genuine concerns that you’ll be included in the next round of layoffs then be proactive and prepare yourself. Start/fix your cv, apply for positions ahead of time. In terms of dealing with it OP you have to be understanding we are in the middle of a global pandemic, there are people in a way worse position than you so be grateful. I know it’s scary and I know everything is uncertain atm but try and be optimistic, work hard, spend more time trying to distract with hobbies and or tasks that don’t require you to think too much. Be ahead of the game, if you prepare yourself mentally and do all your preparation activities then you’ve got nothing to worry about. Good luck OP
I am worried everyday. It's almost crippling some days. I have conversations with senior mgmt. But, have no confidence in them protecting us.
I had this feeling for 6 months before I finally heard the news. Now I have another two before I’m without a job.
It’s a cliché, but try not to stress over things outside of your control, and focus your energy on the things you can.
Get your CV updated, start connecting with others, and see what’s out there. It’ll all work out.
With adversity, we emerge stronger than we were before. Best of luck.
Fear of the unknown is certainly a big part of it, agreed. It’s definitely not the ideal time to be looking for a new role, but all I can control is my level of effort and attitude. Trying to make the best of it.
I completely feel the same. UK here and redundancies are being discussed...
Thanks for the advice in the replies
Same! Every time we get an email from Candida I have to mentally prepare myself to read it
Same. I am busting my butt and honestly its kind of sad because I am not sure it'll matter much in a few months.
I was in a similar situation last year after being with the firm for over 10 years. Because of the tension I lost over 15 pounds and was in severe depression and had all stress related ailments. The day finally came and I was told that I am no longer required. Fast forward to now, I have another job that pays decent (i had to take a salary cut) but I am more happy, enjoying life with family and less worried of being let go. My advice is simple, you cannot control what is coming your way, you can just control how you want it to affect you. Be positive and you will find a job. My mantra is simple, if others can get a job so can I. So be positive and take care of yourself and wish you all the best.
Thanks for sharing. It does help to hear others share similar stories.
You should share your feelings to your family. They will support you emotionally. For the layoff, don’t freak out, it’s all business. It has nothing to do with you. Now, the real question, do you like it there? If not, consider this layoff an opportunity to jump elsewhere. If you like it, either way, look for a similar job with similar responsibilities. You will witness a layoff in your life sooner or later.
