A lot comes down to confidence. Believe that you’re ready and capable for whatever role your interviewing for and it will come through during convos. Also just know that damn near every creative leader has had, or still has, imposter syndrome. Come with the territory. The key is knowing that everyone is faking it till they make it.
Other less opened-ended tips:
—What’s your plan for yourself when you get there? What do you want to achieve? Knowing this, and even articulating it, can be a good discussion point while putting you more at ease.
—Be conscious of how long you’re talking. Nervous interviewers ramble on a bit too much.
—Make it as conversational as possible. Most of us typically want to hire good, kind people we vibe with above all else…but of course, still need a solid book+relevant experience at your level.
—Demonstrate enthusiasm for the role, the industry, your continued growth, etc. Similar to confidence comment, people are often won over by interviewees who convey that they give a sh!t.
—Ask a few smart questions that show you care; they usually generate free-flowing convo, which is the goal. Such as:
—-what’s your/the agency’s expectations for growth?
—-Where do you see klick in 3 years?
—-What do you think are the most important skills needed for the role we’re talking about?
—-Can also ask about something you saw klick do, like, “I love the Bridge film, so inspiring, can you tell me how that got sold in?” Or something more specific to your role, since a lot of their pro bono projects seem to be handled by a small crew.
I have interviewed with them twice, in person at the Toronto office as well as online.
My experience: they were (intentionally?) vague with the “assignment“ and slow + vague with post-interview feedback. I was told that they gave me the “wrong assignment“ for the interview prep and that’s why it didn’t work out.
I hope that’s not the experience you have or that others had.
