I was where you are a year ago. I think most people feel the same about audit. About 6 months in I realized how shitty the job is, the B4 kool aid wore off quick, and I started passively planning an exit. I exited at 1 yr to FDD at a MM firm (FTI Consulting) and I’m much happier. There’s a toxicity to B4 and audit that’s not normal. I found FDD to be more value add, more interesting, I don’t feel like a nuisance to everyone, and I get paid double what I was making in audit while being MUCH less stressed than I was in B4 audit.
What do you have to do in FDD role on day to day basis? I am not that familiar with this role.
Coach
EVERY associate has been through this. Nobody enjoys their first year. Just take a step back and assess what you can do.
Can you reach out to someone for guidance?
Are you communicating to your teams your struggles?
Are you taking initiative to try and set yourself up to help the team?
It's always better to run towards something than away from it. If the mental strain in too much and you feel like you can't cut it then start navigating what you need to research for your next role. But I can guarantee that if you just up and quit you'll regret it. Take on the challenge, build yourself, and don't let one tough start to your PA career end it prematurely.
Yess first year is always the hardest. But after the first year it becomes easier.
Start applying now. It’s gonna take awhile to get a job.
Normal feeling the first year. Do at least 2 years and make a decision after busy season
