Anyone work at Liquid Sunshine? What’s it like?
Laid off! 🤕
Sue!
Same thing happened to me two years ago. I ended up having to seek counsel with an employment lawyer because my job didn’t believe I was at the doctor’s office even though I had a doctor’s note (they were convinced I was interviewing). The lawyer gave me the best advice: next time, just say you were getting an abortion. No questions asked.
I was super sick a few years back, getting a bunch of tests done and had dr notes for everything. They still at my year review, everyone on the team, only complained ab me not being in the office for my issues. While I still did the most work on the team and hit all my deadlines, plus present to client constantly as the more jr person on the team. At one point when I was healthier and was in regularly, I started coming in between 9-930 since no one got in but account until 10-10:30. I was the only one they say down and complained ab me not being in at 9. Such bullshit discrimination. It's not like I was fucking around not doing my job...
I once got reamed out for taking a day off to take my mother to her second mastectomy.
It was right in the middle of a big pitch, but I’d had it on the calendar a month before we knew about the pitch. I stayed until 3am the night before I took off so I could just focus on my mom the next day. I came in the following day and one of the ACDs said “look you are really fucking up this pitch. You didn’t even bother to come in yesterday and you haven’t really done any of the work for this. You’re fucking over everyone else on the team. You know you’re just a really terrible employee.” Meanwhile she just copied the wire frames from a site she liked while I had come with the concept, created all the key art and wrote the scripts. Did she almost die that day? Yes. Yes she did.
Did they cite medical issues? Was it a layoff or a termination? If they listed that as cause you have a very strong case for wrongful termination . Document, write everything down and seek counsel.
That legit sounds illegal. If you have a copy of that convo in email or a witness to back it up (even if two people said it to you cause then they'd have to corroborate their story) you should talk to a lawyer. I bet they'd settle anyway.
what happened next?! @SAD
coworkers are awful. just awful. talking shit all the time...no compassion..just miserable.
This industry sucks.
AD2 I never missed a single deadline. I would work after my appointments if stuff came in late. Just a bad job. I’m actually glad to be rid of it.
@s&s1: through the sleep deprivation, rage, and crushing frustration that I couldn’t punch her in the throat I managed to choke down my man-tears and walk away.
Oh, and I quit 2 weeks later to take a job with a $35k bump, my mom’s cancer hasn’t come back in the last 3.5 years, they lost the pitch after I left, and the ACD is still a miserable asshole still doing the same bullshit work at the same place. On balance I think the universe punched her in the throat for me, because even the universe knows: fuck her.
That's BS!! (On them, I mean.)
And OP you should, you deserve a better place to work!
@ad4, nothing to be sorry about. She’s doing really well. She’s back to her old self of badgering me to come to dinner every Sunday. But sorry if my use of pronouns made that confusing.
Forgot to mention I was never fired or laid off for the job, but discriminated against hugely after the health issues compared to before.
They did not list it. It was brought up 2 days before they let me go via email. When they let me go they said it was performance related.
👆hah. Good to know.
Lawyer up.
You can sue. If you have documentation of being fired due to medical reasons you will likely win; however, will likely cast a shadow over future employment.
I’m really sorry to hear about your mom SAD1
