What a waste of your time and a waste of hers to monitor that.
Maybe ask for an example of how she tracks this for herself, or for other current or past team members. Then press her for more information about how this will be valuable and what she’s ultimately hoping to achieve. Maybe there’s a better solution that you could propose.
Maybe this is the general culture there and how her leaders are also managing. I think it’s ridiculous and wouldn’t be interested in working somewhere where I’m not trusted to get my work done and to manage my bathroom breaks without saying “mother may I”.
Definitely make the most of it until you find what’s next!
Curious, do you think of your manager as an experienced manager? Is something like OCD the driving force here? If it weren’t for the manager, would you see yourself happy there?
Coach
That would make me incredibly uncomfortable. That is MAJOR micromanagement. I would have to leave immediately.
Agree, run! A few years back I got a new manager and she asked me to forward her all the emails I worked on a year prior while I work remote due to a family emergency. Like what, that’s no even feasible and I was the last person in a team of 3, who she thought was doing the work of all 3 people. I immediately started looking and left soon after. Best decision
It is absolutely ridiculous she is asking you for water and bathroom breaks. I don’t even think McDonald’s workers get treated like that. I’m sorry you’re going through this, this person sounds like a nightmare.
I can see adding your lunch break yes, but other than that, they shouldn't be tracking anything else
Does she have that much time on her hands?
PM is she in over her head? Insecure?
Have you been taking long breaks?
OP stated they are a new employee, so this is an out of the blue. This is an initial request with her starting a new job. I hope she puts creating that timesheet on the timesheet.
I'd ask how the 30-min to 1hr spent tracking in this much detail aside from the mandatory app is a value add and how you should go about getting your 8 hours worth of work done in your remaining 7 hours of the day. Add the time spent tracking to the tracker. If the pushback is insane I'd bring it up to HR or a higher up honestly. Like this amount of administration feels like a breach of privacy and respect, as well as a burden and you can't complete your assigned tasks. It's completely unreasonable
