I love the fact that with my deductible I effectively don't have health insurance, unless something catastrophic happens. Thanks PwC!

That's how insurance works...

We know how insurance works, OW1. The deductibles went up substantially.

like

Then your anecdotal story is even more irrelevant.

like

So let’s make it more relevant as a demonstration of the magnitude of network discounts. In this example, the network discount was just over 95% of the undiscounted amount prior to any other payment sources.

like

So cash prices are better than allowed charges?

like

PwC1s point is important. We aren’t just getting insurance. We are also getting network discounts.

like

Back in August I had a procedure that was $46,000 undiscounted. After insurance discounts and insurance payments, my out of pocket cost was $760 which I covered with pretax dollars saved in my HSA. This is basically how these higher deductible plans are supposed to work. It’s a departure from the open access plans, which carried a higher monthly cost but tended to have lower copayments, but it’s basically been a wash for me.

like

I had other expenses prior bringing me closer to the deductible.

like

BAH used to have copay plans period. No deductible. I could walk into a specialist for $25, didn’t matter the procedure, and I’d be covered in full. Those were the days.

like

#themoreyouknow

Substantially? When? I don’t recall a significant change in high ded plans. I think they did get rid of open access plans

Yeah seriously, sure the deductible is high but the network discounts are no joke.

^ what insurance payments? They don’t kick in until you hit your deductible. This story isn’t adding up.

The new plans are shit. I had to pay $171 out of pocket (HSA dollars) for a checkup... a fucking checkup!

It will go up until it's essentially a tax for the insurance industry. Might as well have Medicare for all at this rate, but insurance sure as hell will spend as much as possible lobbying for that to not happen.

^Maybe that was the plan all along.

Definitely the point. Obamacare was designed to bring about single payer via dealing out deaths to insurers.

In confidence she told me she can often smell alcohol. How can I help? I feel helpless. I’ve already lost someone to addiction and I can’t ignore this. Any advice?

Inspired by one of my kids' favorite books, I penned this masterpiece of an Ode to Consulting:

One senior partner all alone
Calls two managing directors on the phone
Three associate partners at the door
Bring along another four
Five senior managers come overdressed
Six managers show up with a guest
Seven senior consultants arrive in a sack
Eight associates sneak in the back
Nine analysts come to work
ALL THE CONSULTANTS GO BERSERK!!!

Ok, I'll show myself out now... 😂
