My guesses are age, salary requirements, or nepotism.
There is definitely ageism going on with me.😫
I did appreciate the fact that they took the time to call me. But what I found odd was when I asked for feedback, HR told me “based on our notes there’s really nothing you could’ve done differently, everything was extremely positive and seemed like natural fit.” it actually got a bit awkward because she didn’t know what to say after that. She then said if I saw another job I should apply for it and reach out to her directly. So I’m guessing it came down to likability? I really wanted this job and it was extremely disappointing not to get it. And yes, I know we all don’t get what we want all the time lol but I’m also a big proponent of getting feedback and improving for the next time. So give it to my straight- what am I missing here? Thx.
Thank you for your feedback. I certainly wasn’t expecting a stranger to come up with some fairytale explanation as to the “why”. However, let’s be honest- this is an anonymous site and people are a little more forthcoming with reasons things happen in the workplace.
You gave some perspective I didn’t consider: it shouldn’t have become awkward. Which makes me wonder in hindsight if the recruiter had just been a little more honest, maybe it wouldn’t have become awkward. Not saying she lied to me, but if you are rejecting a candidate for a job, there is a specific reason. Don’t tell a candidate they “were a natural fit” and then act perplexed when they ask for feedback. They could’ve simply said: “our chosen candidate would fit better with the culture here”, and that would’ve been acceptable to me.
Specifically asking the recruiter doesn’t guarantee the truth because they’re not going to tell you the whole truth. They never will. I have found that asking for feedback outside of the interview gives one perspective they may have not considered.
Respectfully speaking, we are all anonymous posters here, we do not know each other, and quite frankly, I feel like I would get a more unbiased perspective on this app than I would from a friend or someone who knew me personally.
Regardless, I didn’t get the job and I’m certainly not giving up. I appreciate your comments.
Same. I don’t know what people’s problems are. Why do they tell you that you are a great fit and then turn around and send you a rejection letter?
