Put an open can of tuna in their desk drawer and lock/hide it. People always leave the key in those things.
Or take the high road and just do better work. The people who matter don't care about stuff like that.
Plus, the less you spend on clothes and all that status stuff, the more eff-you money you can save up to have more freedom in roles you take in the future.
Do better work? How would that counteract the shame of being mocked? Tf is wrong with you? You’re so used to telling people to work harder that it’s become a reflex. “Hustle harder” does not apply here, bro.
It goes to show their real character.
Petty people discuss petty things. Don’t let them get to you. Focus on the work & make more eff-you money^^^^
If i hear it firsthand, I say something right there in the moment. Confront it then and nip in the bud.

This is the way.
I overheard two coworkers making fun of me a long time ago and I was so crushed but I let it go. I have no idea where one is today and the other one doesn’t seem like they have a good life or are happy at all.
Petty small people often live petty small joyless lives.
No other word for people like this but losers. To take time out of their day for something so childish like this, what a joke!
Shame on them and karma will come their way. Some adults never grow out of their high school phase. Laugh it off and feel bad for them lol ❤️
Focus on you and look at it as a blessing that you know the type of people they are. Your style is your style, you’re there for a job and not their approval. Some people love to gossip because they have nothing else to do.
Does it help that I think they are assholes?
What were their complaints? Did they think it was dirty, unprofessional, too revealing, or just plain catty?
You grow up and do your job.
Ignore them and don’t stoop to their level. Bullies are the same whether you’re 5 or 55, they act out of jealousy and insecurity. As a lifelong weirdo I tell myself they wish they could be as free as me.
If they say it loud enough for you to hear and you’re feeling 🌶️ I’d stand up and spin and say “oh thanks! It’s new!”. It takes real balls to correct you and say they hate it. If they do, just shrug, look them bottom to top and say Hmm!
Just move on.
Ask them what they think about your outfit. Directly.
Want to add: inaction isn’t the “high road.” #MeToo is the high road. If you want a positive work culture, you need to be active in developing one. Obviously this isn’t anywhere as drastic as metoo, but it’s still somebody being bullied and shamed.
So confront them. Don’t be a dick. Don’t look for a fight. Just ask them “hey, what do you think about my outfit?” It’ll knock them off balance. They might get embarrassed, which is good. They should be. Or one of y’all might leverage the conversation towards getting to know one another better, which is even better. Don’t just ignore it though. It’s still bothering you because you know it shouldn’t be ignored.
