EY recruiting is such a mess. Applied and did a pre-recorded video interview, heard nothing for like 3 weeks. Then I get a random call saying they liked me and would I be available to attend an interview the following day. I say yes but never receive an email or additional details. Call back the number and it goes to voicemail. The following week I get a rejection email. Just so frustrating EY

Feel like I’ve lost my identity as well as 5 years of my life to this profession. It’s a great field for people who enjoy it but I think it just stresses me out because I’m not detail oriented and am more of a people person than most accountants. Having to make myself detail oriented, analyze data and be quiet stresses me out and I start this never ending cycle of being unfulfilled in life. Any advice on how to navigate this?
My dad was at a bulge bracket bank in banking before retiring at 53, 30 years into his career. He’s now been in his second career for 10 years in a job which requires mostly people skills and sales, making more money, working far less, and about 10x happier. He’s the perfect example of someone who hated his job and even if it took too long to realize, he way happier now that he’s pivoted. Take a chance and apply to roles you can see yourself happy in, you probably won’t regret it
He got into real estate, it’s all about making connections with the right people and getting his name known in the right circles now and closing deals. Seeing him with so much energy again is pretty refreshing
My advice is to start interviewing for positions in sales or operations like you mentioned. It’s worth a shot. You are not alone in how you feel. You may have given up five years to accounting but you still have the rest of your career to potentially do some thing that you are more passionate about.
